LAHORE: The Little Art in partnership with the Deutche Welle Akademie organised Children’s Media Conference that aimed to carry out the question on the need of children’s programming in Pakistan and to create a network of media professionals who wish to produce meaningful content for children.
Prominent journalists, reporters and media executives, policy makers and young activists have been invited to attend the first round table conference (15th – 20th December, 2014) at a local hotel. The conference has three sessions for three different groups.
The last three days of the conference saw the participation of senior producers from television channels, chief executives of media and production houses, head of corporate communications and CSR professionals from media networks. Samina Ahmad, well known Pakistani TV artist and producer with an experience of over 30 years in different platforms of media and working with children, participated in the roundtable discussions and worked in the conference to present some interesting highlights from the past as well as present programming in media.
Participants discussed the policies in PEMRA and PBA regarding Children’s programming. Many findings were discussed and some areas were identified where there is room to work as a future media network especially for children. “We need to be taking an activist approach towards recognizing the need for children’s media”, said Adil Faruqui.
The last two days of the conference has focused on formulating some plans of action to start with campaigning and making strategies for developing the Children’s Media Network. “We should bring back to life the old stories we used to tell our children through television and radio, on PTV and Radio Pakistan” said Samina Ahmad.
Participants of the conference during their sessions have been working on strategies and ideas on how to develop and expand the network and making resolutions for the mission/vision and objectives of the Children’s Media Network.
