GARRISON GRAMMAR SCHOOL
Garrison Grammar School is 5th grade school with a mixed population of Muslim and Christian children. Upon learning about the workshop, kids were super excited as we were told by the school’s administration. They attended the workshop with such passion that was also inspiring for us. Everyone would come on time and every day, and experiment with us on various ideas and exercises.
Volunteers from the College of Art and Design, Punjab University & LACAS School helped us in managing the workshop, while it was lead by visual artists.

When I was contacted by a representative of “The Little Art” for visual arts workshop at my school, I was excited to say the least. Primarily, because of the reputation of this robust organization for being the flag bearers of visual arts, painting and drawing activities amongst children in the country and secondly due to the professionalism of their experienced art trainers, who foster and nurture creativity and rational thinking within the kids.
During the 3 day workshop they proved me right, on all counts. Their punctuality, positive attitude, expertise in the field of visual arts and their skills to inculcate the idea of “thinking outside the box” to small kids were phenomenal. They provided all the material and the kids thoroughly expressed themselves while drawing. During the second and third days, students were instructed to work on a theme and each student’s profile was documented as well. The program culminated when a Danish guest joined in to see children’s work. The real ice breaker was when the guest shared classroom space with kids, painted with them and narrated anecdotes about his own country as well.
For both me and my school’s children, it was a huge learning curve. I would welcome them again for such a high powered activity; as such activities for school children are few and far between in our country.

GHANI WELFARE FOUNDATION
The school run by Ghani Welfare Foundation is situated in Shahdara Mor, a small but growing organization with big dreams. During the course of the workshop, we came across a brilliant child who seemed to be a natural born artist. He spoke very less, but his work was astonishing.
Children worked in groups through various exercises, as well as created artwork individually. Though the children came from the marginalized community their passion and creative imagination inspired us a lot.

GOVT PRIMARY SCHOOL – BHABRA
Bhabra is a small locality situation on near the main Ferozpur road and Walton. The Little Art has worked with the school children in the past for various workshops as well through our partner Progressive Education Network (PEN).
We felt that active engagement with kids can motivate them to see beyond the limits. As a child they investigate paint by putting everything over their hands or make arrangements with torn papers and so on. It was detectable in those three days that they get more involved in creative exercises. We’ve seen that children are delighted in exploring and to create with different art materials. The feedback was amazing from both teachers and the kids. The teachers also helped us to encourage the child through this creative process.
We engaged them to think out of the box and draw the weather they like the most. They never experienced this kind of exercise before as they always drew the fruits, animals, human body parts etc.

GREEN EARTH SCHOOL – ROSHNI ASSOCIATION
Green Earth School is situated in Green Earth recycle factory and working under Roshni Association Lahore. The Little Art has worked with the school children in the past for various exhibitions as well. Age group of the children was 10 to 15 including special children.
We start working with children on alphabets drawing technique, in which children’s learn how to use alphabets and create it in an animal shape. Children love this technique and draw some amazing drawing while using pencil and crayons colors. Next day we gave freestyle drawing exercise to children in which they are free to draw anything which they like. We guided them in their drawing and add depth of field in their drawing by adding light and darks in their drawing. Children love this exercise because they never experience such a technique before.
Saba is a special child she is punctual students like other students she loves to draw cycle in her drawing and always calling me and asking did I am doing right or not.
Rohit Robin is a student of Green Earth School, Roshni Association, he is from minorities and he is bit talkative but his drawing skills are excellent. He made an amazing drawing accordingly to our topic BAHAR.

RISING STAR SCHOOL
Rising Star School is situated in canal view society, canal bank, Lahore. Age group of the children was 10 to 15 including special children.
We started working with children on alphabets drawing technique, in which children learned how to use alphabets and create it in an animal shape or any other characters. Children loved this technique and drew some amazing drawing while using pencil and adding helping elements in it which made their drawing extraordinary. We also gave freestyle drawing exercise to children in which they were free to draw anything which they like.
On the third day, we gave children a specific topic Bahar (spring season). Children started their drawing nature with the help of last 2 days exercise and added depth of field in their artwork. We were amazed to see how quickly they adopted technique and used it in their work.
Haider is our last year ArtBeat 2014 Studio RM Residency winner. He is a quick learner enrolled in Rising Star Primary School.
