The competition announced the 5th season as “My Teacher – My Hero” inviting children to visualize in portraits the teachers that have inspired them the most. Artworks from more than 220 schools were submitted in response to the call by children and youth from all over Pakistan to serve an artistic tribute to our teachers.

This year’s jury consisted of esteemed artists, curators and experienced art educators such as;

Qudsia Rahim (Curator, Executive Director, Lahore Biennale Foundation)
R.M. Naeem (Painter and Teacher, National College of Arts)
Sadaf Naeem (Painter and Lecturer, Kinnaird College)
Rabeya Jalil(Visual artist, Art Educator)

As part of the program this year ArtBeat has partnered with established studios in 3 cities to offer studio workshops to 90 selected child artists in summers.

ISLAMABAD EXHIBITION & PRIZE DISTRIBUTION CEREMONY

Islamabad exhibition and prize distribution ceremony were held in April from22nd to 23rd, 2016 at Sir Syed Memorial Society Islamabad.

The ceremony guests include;

H.E Helle Nielsen – Charge d’Affairs Embassy of Denmark
Mr. Sulaiman Dhanani – Country Director Hashoo Foundation
Mrs. Fatima Mushtaq – Founder of Roots School System
Brig M Shafi – President Sir Syed Memorial Society
Sajjad Akram – Owner Nukta Studios
Sana Zara – Sculptor and General Manager Nukta Studios
Samreen Asif – Miniature Artist and Asst Professor Comsats

A curated show of nearly 120 artworks was presented from Islamabad region at the exhibition. Child artists that have been selected to present their works at the gallery exhibitions in Islamabad this year were awarded certificates and cash prizes by the honorable guests.

KARACHI EXHIBITION & PRIZE DISTRIBUTION CEREMONY

The opening ceremony was held on 29th April 2016 at 5 pm in the Art Scene Gallery, Clifton, Karachi.

The ceremony guests include:

Marjorie Husain – notable art critic and author as chief guest who inaugurated the ceremony
Abdul Jabbar Gul – artist and sculptor
Ahmed Hilal Zuberi – Guest of Honor Senior Artist and Educationist
Naheed Raza – Guest of Honor Senior Artist nationally and internationally

During her speech Marjorie Hussain stated:

I have to appreciate all the efforts of ArtBeat. It’s such a wonderful thing for children to have the opportunity to show their talent in their field of arts.

The selected winners from the competition were awarded cash prizes and certificates at the opening event. A curated show of nearly 76 artworks from the Sindh region was presented at the exhibition.

LAHORE EXHIBITION & PRIZE DISTRIBUTION CEREMONY

Artbeat Lahore ceremony was organized at the Alhamra Art Gallery Mall on the 5th May 2016. Artworks of the 176 young artists were exhibited and winners of the Lahore region were awarded with the prize money and certificates.

Quddus Mirza, known art critic, artist and art educator inaugurated the exhibition as chief guest.

Other guests were;

RM Naeem – visual artist and educator
Bin Qalandar – Pakistani calligraphy artist,
Rabeya Jalil – visual artist, art educator and Asst professor at BNU
Asad Hayee – art educator and curator of Rohtas Gallery
Zahid Mayo – known Pakistani painter

Quddus Mirza stated in his speech,

I am overwhelmed by the work the children have presented here it felt like fresh air blown back into my life after seeing such fresh perspectives of children about the world and about their heroes.
