The Little Art organized the opening event of the 5th season of ArtBeat – National Child Art Competitions & Exhibitions. The ceremony was organized at the Alhamra Art Gallery Mall Road Lahore at 5:00pm to announce the start of the gallery exhibition in Lahore.

The competition announced the season as “My Teacher – My Hero” inviting children to visualize in portraits the teachers that have inspired them the most. Artworks from more than 220 schools were submitted in response to the call by children and youth from all over Pakistan to serve an artistic tribute to our teachers.

The ceremony guests included Quddus Mirza, known art critic, artist and art educator as chief guest, RM Naeem visual artist and educator, Bin Qalandar, Pakistani calligraphy artist, Rabeya Jalil, visual artist, art educator and Asst professor at BNU, Asad Hayee, art educator and curator of Rohtas Gallery and Zahid Mayo, known Pakistani painter. Child artists that have been selected to present their works at the gallery exhibitions in Lahore this year were awarded certificates and cash prizes by the honorable guests. The ceremony also screened a showreel of the highlights of the previous season of ArtBeat, with experiences from the competition and workshops shared by the students and jury members.

Some of schools that had been selected for prizes and exhibits included Army Public School Azam Garrison, Rising Stars Elementary school, Ghani Grammar School, Bloomfield hall School Gujrat, Fatima Fertilizer School Sadiqabad, FFC Grammar H/S Sadiqabad, Garrison Academy For Girls Lahore Cantt, Ghani Grammar School Shahdra, International School Of Chouifat Lahore, Kips School Gilrs Campus Johar Town Lahore, LACAS Girls Branch Johar Town Lahore and many others.

During his speech Quddus Mirza stated:

“For many years we had been observing that people have been facing a downfall in aspects of economy, political situation and social life in general. But today after entering the gallery and seeing such fresh perspectives of children about the world and about their heroes, it felt like fresh air blown back into my life. I am overwhelmed by the work the children have presented here and I would like to commend The Little Art in putting up and curating a fantastic show”

Special Guest RM Naeem said :

”I think the theme of this year was a very important, so I think we should really appreciate the teachers and by teachers I also mean parents because without these people we will all not be where we are today. The future of art seems very bright today because of these young artists as well as their teachers who put in so much effort each year to help their children express themselves and guide them in presenting their views to the world”

The selected winners from the competition were awarded cash prizes worth Rs. 1,00,000 and certificates at the opening event. A curated show of nearly 176 artworks was presented at the exhibition at the gallery in Alhamra Arts Gallery , The Mall in Lahore.

ArtBeat is a project of The Little Art which was initiated in 2012 with a vision to promote visual culture, develop understanding of issues among children and youth from their own perspective, and celebrate children as artists and present children’s view to community.

The Little Art is a non –profit organization working for promoting arts education and providing creative learning opportunities to children and young people in Pakistan.
